Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
